With the water temp at 48 degrees and almost no visibility in the water. We fired up Charlies sweet Ranger/Mercery and pointed it downtown in a light fog where we were going to target riprap banks. Our thoughts on this, the fish would be easier to find and not all buried up deep in the weeds and tules. We only need 5 right ? Dropped the Minnkota, fired up the Hummingbird put the boat in 10 ft of water and went to work down the bank casting and grinding. Charlie had tied on a little red speed trap to his favorite Okuma rod and reel where he could feel what we thought would be a soft
bite with the cold water. That combo worked out as planned, he soon boxed a nice little keeper… yeeha !!! A fish !!Ever try to net a fish that you can’t see, man that water was dirty… anyway we are on the board !!!! Now 4 more right…WRONG ! I had been pitching a jig with no luck so I switched to a chartreuse speed trap because of water color and after God knowshow many casts and with the day coming to an end a very nice 3 lber wanted to play tug a war where Charlie slipped the net under him and the rest is history !!!!
Honestly guys there was no magic on this one we just did what we do best….”keep casting”and it worked out. 2 fish for 4.8 lbs and the “W”. Both of us are still shaking our heads, 4 pounds on the delta is crazy ! But we’ll take it ! Oh and we burned 2 gallons of gas… another Yeeha !!!
Thanks again and remember keep casting you may only need two fish to win!
